In addition, the genome sequences of important model systems used in biological, medical and pharmacological experiments are also available (Waterston et al. 2002, Gibbs et al. 2004). After genome sequencing studies, the focus was shifting to transcriptomics and proteomics. Transcriptomics studies the levels of transcripted mRNA (transcriptome) in cells or tissues. Proteomics is initially concerned with determining the structure, expression, localization, biochemical activity, interactions and cellular roles of as many proteins as possible (de Hoog and Mann, 2004). In other words, proteomics is a large-scale study of the proteome. The term " proteome " was described in the 1990 " s: the PROTEin complement expressed by a genOME (Wilkins et al. 1996). The cellular proteome is a dynamic and complex network of proteins. Due to the fact that only a fraction of mRNA is translated to proteins, mRNA levels are relatively weak predictors of protein …

The presence of ascorbate induces expression of brain derived neurotrophic factor in SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells after peroxide insult, which is associated with increased survival.
Oxidative stress and free radical production have been implicated in Alzheimer's disease, where low levels of the antioxidant vitamin C (ascorbate) have been shown to be associated with the disease. In this study, neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells were treated with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of ascorbate in order to elucidate the mechanism(s) of protection against oxidative stress afforded by ...
متن کاملPhosphoproteome Profiling of SH-SY5y Neuroblastoma Cells Treated with Anesthetics: Sevoflurane and Isoflurane Affect the Phosphorylation of Proteins Involved in Cytoskeletal Regulation
Inhalation anesthetics are used to decrease the spinal cord transmission of painful stimuli. However, the molecular or biochemical processes within cells that regulate anesthetic-induced responses at the cellular level are largely unknown. Here, we report the phosphoproteome profile of SH-SY5y human neuroblastoma cells treated with sevoflurane, a clinically used anesthetic. Phosphoproteins were...
متن کاملInvolvement of Mu Opioid Receptor Signaling in The Protective Effect of Opioid against 6-Hydroxydopamine-Induced SH-SY5Y Human Neuroblastoma Cells Apoptosis
Introduction: The neuroprotective role of opioid morphine against 6-hydroxydopamineinduced cell death has been demonstrated. However, the exact mechanism(s) underlying such neuroprotection, especially the role of subtype receptors, has not yet been fully clarified. Methods: Here, we investigated the effects of different opioid agonists on 6-OHDA-induced neurotoxicity in human neuroblastoma...
متن کاملRheum turkestanicum Janisch Root Extract Mitigates 6-OHDA-Induced Neuronal Toxicity Against Human Neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y Cells
Background and Objective: Rheum turkestanicum (R. turkestanicum) has been known to reduce inflammation and has antioxidant properties such as protective effect in neurons. This study aimed to determine the effects of R. turkestanicum on neuronal toxicity induced by the pro-parkinsonian neurotoxin 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) in neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. Materials and Methods: MTT and DNA frag...
متن کاملA complex consisting of pp60"/pp60 and a 38 kDa protein is highly enriched in growth cones from differentiated SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells
Nerve growth cones of primary neurons are highly enriched in the proto-oncogene product pp^'TM. In order to investigate this molecule further in growing neuronal cells, growth cone and cell body fractions were prepared from human SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells differentiated neuronally in vitro under the influence of phorbol ester. The fractions were characterized ultrastructurally and by biochemi...
متن کاملInterleukin-18 alters protein expressions of neurodegenerative diseases-linked proteins in human SH-SY5Y neuron-like cells
Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress (OS) are present in Alzheimer's disease (AD) brains in addition to neuronal loss, Amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques and hyperphosphorylated tau-protein neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). Previously we showed that levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokine, interleukin-18 (IL-18), are elevated in post-mortem AD brains. IL-18 can modulate the tau kinases, Cdk5 and GSK3β, ...
